Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear colleagues, |
| |
|
Tracheostomy is one of the oldest surgical
operations in the history of medicine. In the past that
intervention was practiced almost exclusively in the extreme
emergency. Nowadays, this is a procedure that is most often
linked to the tumour surgery or for securing free airways in the
intensive care patients.
During the last 15 years various methods for
percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy were developed. In the
practical intensive medicine these techniques have found their
extensive use.
The present symposium should provide insight
into the large spectrum of the dilatational and surgical
techniques of tracheostomy, and at the same time, will try to
reveal the historical roots of that often lifesaving
intervention. Apart from the introductory review lectures, the
number of researcher will present their most actual scientific
results related to the tracheostomy. We are happy to announce
that the numerous world wide known experts in the field have
accepted our invitation and will be taking part at this
symposium.
We will be delighted and honoured to welcome
you here in Greifswald, on the Pomeranian Baltic sea coast, to
celebrate with us, at the same time, the 550th
anniversary of the University of Greifswald. You will have the
opportunity not only to assist to the scientific meetings but
also to get acquainted with one of the oldest European
universities.
Welcome to the Hansestadt Greifswald and to
the 550th anniversary of the Pomeranian University.
